the One Act Play

LEading ladies

ABOUT THE SHOW _______________________________

Set in the 1950s, Leading Ladies focuses on two English Shakespearean actors, Jack and Leo, who find their careers in a rut. They are currently performing "Scenes from Shakespeare" on the Moose Lodge circuit in the Amish country of Pennsylvania. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, however the actors resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. Hilarity ensues when it turns out the relatives are actually nieces and not nephews. Things get even more complicated when Leo falls madly in love with the old lady's vivacious niece, Meg, who's engaged to the local minister.

2022 UIL Competition Donation

The UIL competition can be very expensive, including traveling to multiple clinics in preparation for the competition, traveling to compete at each advancement level, as well as transporting the costumes and set. Please consider giving to Bridgeland Theatre to help fund the competition team's costs and travel expenses.

All gifts are sincerely appreciated and no amount is too small. With your gift of  $200 or more, you will receive a signed/framed show poster (like the one pictured) at the conclusion of the competition as a token of our thanks.

The UIL One-Act Play contest is a competition where similarly sized Texas schools present an 18-40 minute play for adjudication by a panel of judges. There are six possible levels of competition: Zone, District, Bi-District,
Area, Region, and State. In Bridgeland's first few years, we advanced to the
Bi-District level.

Last year, we received many awards at each competition level up to
Regionals with the play Second Samuel. This year, we want to take Leading Ladies all the way to STATE!!
